Caring for your Floorcloth
|
Our Floorcloths are very flexible, but if you need to store them please roll the floorcloth
loosely. Folding can ruin them, creating creases or cracking the paint.
The floorcloths are sealed with 6 coats of polyurethane or an acrylic varnish, so they are very
durable.
If you are using the floorcloth on a slippery floor you can use a non-skid mat under it. This way
it will not slide all over the floor. Cut the mat so it fits within the sewn edges of the floorcloth.
To clean, use a mild detergent with warm water to wipe up anything.
Even stubborn stains can be removed with a sponge that has a rough side.
Hand wash with cool water and a small amount of mild detergent.
Hang dry the scarf and then follow up with an iron on silk setting.
For Silk Velvet scarves, use the steam of an iron on the backside of the scarf. The iron cannot
press down on the scarf it will crush the pile of the velvet and ruin the scarf. You can also
lightly iron the backside of the scarf if it is laying on velvet. So, the two sides of pile are
touching each other and you are ironing on the backside of the scarf.
The first time you wash a scarf the colors may run a little, that is normal. Just make sure you
wash them separately from any of your clothes.
Questions we are asked most often:
Can you walk on a floorcloth?
Of course, it is so easy to clean and durable why wouldn't you. They are so much
more interesting to look at than carpet or an ordinary rug.
How long does it take to create a Floorcloth?
It can take anywhere from 4-8 weeks depending on the size and detail. First, to get out
any wrinkles we steam the floorcloths with our Industrial Steamer. Next, they are
painted with several white base coats on the front and back. Then the designs are
hand painted. To finish we paint six coats of polyurethane on the front and back. The
floorcloth has to dry completely between each layer of paint to maintain flexibility.
What kind of paint do you use on the floorcloths?
Water-based acrylics and water-based polyurethane.
Are the scarves hand painted?
Yes, they all begin as white fabric and then they are hand painted.
